Teaching, Learning & Assessment
Thurston Community College is committed to outstanding practice in teaching, learning and assessment. Our teaching and support staff understand and employ best practice in learning and teaching throughout the College. Students learn in a variety of ways in and out of lessons: from their teachers, other adults in the college, each other and most importantly, themselves both implicitly and explicitly.
The purpose of learning (for all learners in the College community) is to be aware of individual potential and to provide personalised support in order to fulfil it. It is to enable our students to become socially and emotionally at ease. It is to prepare them for the opportunities that face them when they leave the college environment and to enable them to make reasoned choices about their lives. It is, in short, to enable them to be the best they can be and passionate about the opportunities and challenges of life – to become effective life-long learners.
