Over the course of the next few weeks, students in Years 11 and 13 will be sitting external examinations. I would like to commend these students for their diligent work and commitment to their studies during their time at Thurston Community College. Now is the culmination of their hard work and I wish them every success. I hope that our students feel well prepared and are given the chance to demonstrate their skills and knowledge.
At Thurston Community College, we firmly believe in the importance of exposing our students to a diverse range of customs and beliefs, wherever possible. Part of this education is delivered through opportunities to visit other parts of the world, thereby experiencing alternative cultures. Most recently we have held the College’s Spanish Exchange, an educational visit by our Year 10 History students to Ypres and our Exchange Visit to Shanghai, which I had the pleasure of accompanying. In our Personal Challenge week next half term, students will have the opportunity to visit Berlin and France. Looking further ahead to the next academic year, visits are planned to CERN in Switzerland, to Iceland and to Nepal.
These educational visits not only enrich the learning of our students, they also contribute enormously to their personal and social development. I am always incredibly impressed by the behaviour of our students on educational visits and I would like to thank our staff who give generously of their free time, without whom the visits could not take place.
