Gatehouse reverse advent calendar
The students at Thurston Community College have really embraced the opportunity to think of others and give something back this Christmas time. All five house teams, along with Thurston Sixth and members of staff have worked hard to complete a collection of reverse advent calendar boxes throughout November, each day adding everyday items in order to give somebody more vulnerable a better festive experience. Amanda Bloomfield (pictured back right) Chief Executive of the Gatehouse charity was thrilled to collect the boxes for the charity’s foodbank appeal.
Many students have really taken to the challenge, turning up with bags and boxes full of items while some have spread the work further and created complete boxes at home too. It’s been a pleasure to see the realisation that one tiny, seemingly insignificant, action can contribute to something so important and special. This Christmas, I think a lot of our young people at Thurston will be sparing a thought for those local people enjoying the boxes we’ve helped to create and that’s a priceless lesson!
