National Citizen Service

NCS and UFAThurston Community College – Champion School for the National Citizen Service

We are proud to be the only school in Suffolk to be awarded ‘Champion’ status for the government’s flagship National Citizen Service programme.

So far over 70 students from Year 11 will take part in the government run programme which gives students the opportunity to take part in a unique range of  outward-bound activities, skills-building and volunteering within the local community. It is designed to increase confidence and help young people develop skills that make them more employable and independent.

National Citizenship ServiceThe programme, a government-backed initiative, is officially recognised by UCAS and widely valued by employers.

NCS receives significant government investment so each place costs a maximum of £50.00.

Caitlin Harvey took part in the programme in Autumn 2013. She helped organise a gig and photo campaign to raise awareness and money for young people diagnosed with cancer. She encourages everyone to get involved in NCS ‘It was a great opportunity to develop skills and make new friends.’

The NCS is run in the East of England by University of the First Age.  For more information or to sign up, visit www.ncseast.co.uk, or contact the NCS East Team:
