National Citizen Service
We are very proud of the number of students who continue to sign up to take part in the government’s flagship National Citizen Service programme.
The programme which gives students the opportunity to take part in a unique range of outward-bound activities, skills-building and volunteering within the local community. It is designed to increase confidence and help young people develop skills that make them more employable and independent.
The programme, a government-backed initiative, is officially recognised by UCAS and widely valued by employers.
NCS receives significant government investment so each place costs a maximum of £50.00.
Students from Thurston have carried out a range of fantastic projects to benefit the community including Caitlin Harvey who helped organise a gig and photo campaign to raise awareness and money for young people diagnosed with cancer. She encourages everyone to get involved in NCS ‘It was a great opportunity to develop skills and make new friends.’
The NCS is run in the East of England by University of the First Age. For more information or to sign up, visit www.ncseast.co.uk, or contact the NCS East Team:
