Key Stage 3

Key Stage 3Our Key Stage 3 (Years 7, 8 and 9) curriculum is designed to inspire a love of learning.  We aspire to all students being ‘enthusiasts’ in the subjects they study – developing effective study habits and a willingness to take risks in their learning which will stand them in excellent stead for the challenges of Key Stage 4 and beyond.  The level of challenge is high - but the personalised support and guidance is effective and the opportunities to celebrate success are frequent.  For students starting in Year 7, strong links with the Thurston Partnership primary schools support an excellent academic transition to accompany the outstanding pastoral transition.

At Key Stage 3 students follow a common curriculum based on the current National Curriculum.  Please visit www.gov.uk/government/publications/national-curriculum-in-england-secondary-curriculum for more information about the National Curriculum.  The subjects studied at Key Stage 3 are described below, alongside the curriculum time afforded to each.

The many and varied experiences provided by the planned curriculum ensure that we nurture students’ social, spiritual, moral and cultural development as they progress through the Key Stage.  Many of these experience are based in subject lessons but this provision is complemented by our comprehensive age-appropriate programme of Personal, Social, Health & Citizenship Education.

If you require any further information on Thurston Community College's Key Stage 3 (Years 7 - 9) Curriculum please contact Mr Chris Cassidy, Assistant Principal.
